The training programme

During this Basic First Aid Course, your employees will learn everything there is to know about providing first aid in the event of an accident or an emergency. During this course, in English, they will learn not only how to perform life-saving actions when someone is injured or becomes unwell, but also how to recognise common incidents and risk factors, ensure professional medical help is contacted, and how to deal with emotional reactions.

Preparation with English e-learning from The Orange Cross

Before the first training day, employees will receive access to the Orange Cross e-learning programme. In this online learning environment, they learn all about first aid in an interactive and engaging way. Completing the English e-learning takes approximately 4 hours.

Two on-site training days

The two training days in the Netherlands focus on hands-on practice. This means that we work through realistic, practical scenarios based on situations that could also happen in real life. For one half-day, we work with a trained actor who can realistically simulate various injuries and medical conditions. This makes the practical exercises even more realistic and engaging. All course materials and instructions are provided in English.

During these days, we cover the following topics:
  • First aid: the first link in the chain of emergency response
  • Preventing further casualties
  • Impaired consciousness and breathing
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Burns, wounds, and bleeding
  • Shock
  • Poisoning
  • Eye injuries
  • Fractures, dislocations, bruises, and sprains
  • Using an AED during CPR
  • Recognising common medical conditions
  • Different forms of first aid
  • Acting quickly and decisively in emergency situations

For whom is this course suitable?

This Basic First Aid Group Course is suitable for employees (expats or international employees) who want to become qualified first aiders in the Netherlands and take the course in English. No prior qualifications or experience are required to attend. The course is suitable for groups of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 employees.

Do your employees work with babies and children? In that case, our Baby’s and children group training may be a more suitable option. Would you like your employees to take a different first aid course? Then have a look at our First Aid course overview.

What do you get out of this course?

During the two training days, the instructor assesses whether employees are performing the required first aid procedures correctly. If they pass, employees receive an official First Aid Certificate from the Orange Cross, valid for 2 years. Employees can download their certificate from the Orange cross online learning environment.

After completing this English Basic First Aid Course, employees will know:
  • how to resuscitate a victim using an AED;
  • everything they need to know about providing first aid in the event of an accident or emergency;
  • how to provide first aid in accordance with the Dutch First Aid Guidelines.
