Why is it important to refresh your knowledge?
Regular practice is important to keep first aid knowledge and skills up to date. However, in most cases, employees do not regularly find themselves in situations where they can put their first aid skills into practice (fortunately!). That’s why it’s important to take an English refresher course every two years. This ensures that employees know exactly what to do if they ever find themselves in a situation where they need to provide first aid. In addition, regular refresher training is also required to maintain your certification. An Orange Cross First Aid Certificate is valid for two years.
The English First Aid Refresher Course Programme
During this English First Aid Refresher Group Course, we refresh all of your employees’ first aid knowledge and skills. We cover the course material across four topics: breathing, unconscious casualty, accidents, and wounds. We practise related topics together through a range of exercises and realistic scenarios.
We cover the following topics:
- Creating a safe situation
- The Rautek manoeuvre for moving a casualty from a chair
- Airway problems and injuries
- Altered levels of consciousness
- Shock
- Childhood illnesses
- CPR
- The recovery position
- Bleeding and wounds
- Injuries to muscles, joints, the chest, and spine
- Electrical injuries
For whom is this course suitable?
This course is suitable for employees (expats or international employees) with an Orange Cross First Aid Certificate that is due to expire. The First Aid Certificate is valid for two years. Before the certificate expires, employees must complete a refresher course to maintain their certification. We can provide this course on-site for groups of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 participants.
Did your employees complete their basic first aid course with another training provider? No problem! In that case, we will need their certificate number so we can arrange the renewal with the Orange Cross.
Has an employee’s certificate already expired, or have they never completed a first aid course? In that case, sign them up for a Basic First Aid Course.
What do you get out of this course?
Have employees demonstrated the required competencies during the course, then they will receive a renewed First Aid Certificate from the Orange Cross that is valid for 2 years. Employees do not need to take a separate exam to renew their certificate.
Employees will know:
- How to provide first aid quickly and effectively in an emergency situation;
- Which forms of first aid they can provide;
- How to recognise common medical conditions.
What do you need to arrange as an organisation?
If you would like to organise the course at your own location, it’s important that you meet the requirements in our checklist for in-company training (the requirements for outdoor space do not apply to this course). The following is required:
- A room with a minimum size of: number of participants (including the instructor) × 3.5 m²
- Tables arranged in a U-shape
In addition to providing a suitable training room, we also expect you to arrange lunch, tea, and coffee.
Don't have a suitable space available at your organisation? In that case we can also arrange a training location for you. We're happy to think along with you.
